Construction underway on Clayton Reservoir ProjectConstruction underway on Clayton Reservoir Project<div class="ExternalClass3C2CE1FDB54C4E96A566800C31824F83"><p>Metro Vancouver is building a new $30-million reservoir at Hazelgrove Park in the City of Surrey to ensure the reliable supply of clean, safe drinking water for the service area’s growing population.</p><p>The Clayton Reservoir Project, which will replace the aging water tank at 72 Avenue and 190 Street in Surrey, will have a storage capacity of 22.5 million litres with the provision to expand to 45 million litres by 2031. The existing tank, built in 1966, has a significantly smaller storage volume of 7.3 million litres and does not meet current seismic standards.</p><p>The project is one of four new reservoirs that Metro Vancouver is building south of the Fraser to meet the growing demand for drinking water in Delta, Surrey and Langley. </p><p>Construction of the project started in December 2016 and is expected to be complete in summer 2018. The project includes: </p><ul><li>Construction of a new above-ground reservoir</li><li>Construction of underground chambers and water mains that will connect to the existing distribution system</li><li>Demolition of the existing concrete water tank</li><li>Landscaping to enhance the community space </li></ul><p>The area surrounding the new reservoir will be restored and integrated into Surrey’s new design for Hazelgrove Park.
